Accessible Vehicle Hire at Heathrow Airport

Heathrow is the busiest airport in the UK and one of the busiest in the world. It should also be one of the easiest to travel through — but for disabled passengers and wheelchair users, finding a genuinely suitable hire vehicle has always been far harder than it needs to be.

Specialist Vehicle Rental is changing that. We now offer dedicated accessible vehicle hire at Heathrow Airport, with wheelchair accessible vehicles and disability adapted cars ready for you at Terminals 2, 3 and 5. No compromise vehicles. No stressful workarounds. Just the freedom to travel on your own terms.

We’ve built this service in partnership with Maple Parking and with the backing of Disabled Motoring UK — and it’s the first of its kind in the UK.

Why Heathrow Passengers Choose Us

Heathrow handles over 80 million passengers a year. That’s a lot of people navigating one of the world’s most complex airports — and for disabled travellers, the challenge doesn’t end at the gate.

Standard car hire companies at Heathrow are not equipped for wheelchair users or drivers with mobility impairments. Their fleets aren’t adapted. Their staff aren’t always trained. And the experience of turning up at a hire desk only to be told they “can’t quite accommodate” your needs is one too many of our customers have had before they came to us.

With Specialist Vehicle Rental at Heathrow:

  • Your vehicle is pre-booked, pre-prepared, and physically ready at the airport before you arrive
  • Every vehicle in our fleet is either wheelchair accessible or specifically adapted for disabled drivers or passengers
  • You have two convenient collection options — Meet & Greet or our accessible collection point
  • We are BVRLA Quality Assured, a Crown Commercial Service Supplier, and Fleet News Rental Supplier of the Year 2025

Heathrow Airport: Key Information for Accessible Travellers

Heathrow Airport (IATA: LHR) is located in west London, approximately 15 miles from the city centre, and is served by the Elizabeth line, Heathrow Express, National Rail, London Underground (Piccadilly line), and a range of bus and coach services.

Terminal guide:

  • Terminal 2 (The Queen’s Terminal) — Star Alliance airlines including United, Lufthansa, and Air Canada
  • Terminal 3 — Virgin Atlantic, Delta, American Airlines, and other oneworld and SkyTeam carriers
  • Terminal 5 — British Airways and Iberia (largest single-airline terminal in the world)

Please note: Terminal 4 serves a smaller number of routes and is not currently covered by our service.

Heathrow has extensive accessibility facilities including Passenger Assist, blue badge parking, accessible taxi ranks, and step-free routes across most terminals. We recommend pre-booking special assistance with your airline for the smoothest possible experience through the airport itself.
