Generally, dual controls can be fitted to almost any vehicle make and model. On manual transmission vehicles, a clutch and brake pedal are fitted with just a brake pedal on automatic models. Sometimes, an accelerator pedal is fitted for the driving instructor to have full control of the vehicle from his/her side.

Modern cars are equipped with advanced electronic systems, including electronic throttle control and brake-by-wire systems.
