  • Ensure the measurement is taken from one side of the ramp to the other.
  • This measurement ensures that your wheelchair is not too wide to fit onto the ramp.

Measuring The Internal Width

Internal Width Measurement:

 

  • Enter the wheelchair accessible vehicle and position yourself where the wheelchair would typically be placed.
  • Using a measuring tape, measure the width inside the vehicle.
  • Be mindful of any equipment or folded seats that may reduce the width inside the vehicle.
  • Ensure the measurement is taken accurately from one side of the interior to the other (factoring in any parts of the vehicle which may get in the way of the wheelchair entering smoothly)

Measuring The Internal Height

Internal Height Measurement:

 

  • Sit or stand inside the wheelchair accessible vehicle.
  • Using a measuring tape, measure the height from the floor of the vehicle to the roof (please take from the lowest point, or where you feel your wheelchair will be positioned)
  • Ensure the measurement is taken on the inside of the vehicle.
  • This measurement helps ensure that there is sufficient headroom for the wheelchair user inside the vehicle.

Measuring The Entry Height

Entry Height Measurement:

 

  • Open the rear door of the wheelchair accessible vehicle.
  • Lower the manual ramp until it is fully extended.
  • Measure the entrance height from the top of the vehicle to the base, usually where the ramp connects to the vehicle.
  • Ensure the measurement is taken accurately to determine if the entry height allows for smooth entry and exit of the wheelchair.
