Wheelchair Accessible Vehicle Hire Across Scotland
Finding reliable wheelchair accessible vehicle hire in Scotland should be straightforward.
At Specialist Vehicle Rental, we provide wheelchair accessible vehicles, adapted vehicles and specialist transport solutions for individuals, families, businesses and organisations across mainland Scotland.
From our Glasgow base, we can arrange vehicle delivery and collection throughout mainland Scotland. We also provide nationwide delivery across the UK, helping customers access suitable vehicles wherever they are needed.
Whether you require a WAV for a few days, several weeks or a longer-term arrangement, our team can help you find a vehicle suited to your individual requirements.
What Is a Wheelchair Accessible Vehicle?
A wheelchair accessible vehicle, commonly known as a WAV, has been specially converted to allow a wheelchair user to travel without needing to transfer into a standard passenger seat.
Depending on the vehicle, access can be provided using a rear ramp or wheelchair lift.
The wheelchair position is then secured using specialist restraints, helping the passenger travel safely and comfortably.
WAVs are available in different sizes, making them suitable for everything from everyday family journeys to larger groups and organisations requiring accessible transport.
Who Can Use WAV Hire in Scotland?
There are many reasons someone may require temporary or longer-term WAV hire in Scotland.
You may need an accessible vehicle because your usual vehicle is being repaired, because you are travelling with a wheelchair user, or because your transport requirements have recently changed.
Our customers can include families, wheelchair users, carers, care organisations, case managers, occupational therapists, businesses, charities and other organisations.
Hiring can also be useful when buying an accessible vehicle is not practical or when you only require one for a particular period.
Short, Medium and Long-Term WAV Hire
Not everyone needs an accessible vehicle permanently.
Specialist Vehicle Rental offers flexible short, medium and long-term wheelchair accessible vehicle hire, allowing customers to choose an arrangement based on how long they actually need the vehicle.
Short-Term WAV Hire
Short-term hire can be suitable for holidays, family visits, appointments, events or temporary transport requirements.
It can also provide replacement transport while another wheelchair accessible vehicle is unavailable.
Medium-Term WAV Hire
If you need accessible transport for several weeks or months, medium-term rental can offer more flexibility than purchasing another vehicle or entering into a lengthy agreement.
Long-Term WAV Hire
Longer-term hire may suit individuals or organisations that need reliable wheelchair accessible transport but want to avoid purchasing and maintaining their own specialist vehicle.
WAV Hire From Our Glasgow Location
Our Glasgow operation allows us to support customers looking for wheelchair accessible vehicle hire in Glasgow and throughout mainland Scotland.
We understand that travelling to collect a specialist vehicle is not always practical, particularly when accessible transport is the reason you need the vehicle in the first place.
That is why delivery and collection can be arranged across mainland Scotland.
We also provide nationwide vehicle delivery throughout the UK.
Choosing the Right Wheelchair Accessible Vehicle
Not every WAV is the same, so it is important to consider your requirements before booking.
Some of the main factors include:
- The dimensions of the wheelchair
- The number of passengers travelling
- Whether additional luggage or equipment needs to be carried
- Whether a ramp or lift is required
- The length of the hire
- Where the vehicle needs to be delivered
Our team can discuss your requirements before recommending an appropriate vehicle.
Providing accurate wheelchair measurements is particularly important, as wheelchair height, width and length can vary considerably.
Wheelchair Accessible Vehicles for Holidays in Scotland
Scotland is a popular destination for family holidays, countryside breaks and longer road trips.
For families travelling with a wheelchair user, having access to a suitable vehicle can provide considerably more flexibility than relying solely on taxis or scheduled transport.
Hiring a WAV means you can plan journeys around your own schedule and keep the vehicle for the duration of your trip.
If you are visiting Scotland from elsewhere in the UK, we can also discuss suitable delivery and collection arrangements.
Accessible Vehicle Hire for Businesses and Organisations
Our accessible vehicle hire in Scotland is not limited to private customers.
We can also support organisations that require specialist vehicles for staff, customers, residents or service users.
This can include care providers, charities, public sector organisations, transport operators and businesses that need temporary accessible fleet capacity.
Rental can be particularly useful when an organisation’s existing vehicle is off the road or when additional accessible transport is required for a specific project or period.
Adapted Vehicle Hire in Scotland
Wheelchair accessible vehicles are only one part of specialist vehicle rental.
We also provide adapted vehicles for disabled drivers, with various driving adaptations available depending on requirements and fleet availability.
These can include adaptations such as hand controls, steering aids, left-foot accelerators and secondary controls.
Our team can discuss the adaptations required and help identify a suitable vehicle.
Why Choose Specialist Vehicle Rental?
Specialist Vehicle Rental has 17 years of experience providing specialist vehicles to customers across the UK.
We understand that accessible transport requirements can vary significantly from one customer to another, which is why we focus on finding a vehicle that matches the individual’s circumstances rather than offering a one-size-fits-all solution.
With wheelchair accessible vehicles, adapted vehicles and other specialist vehicles available, we can support both private and commercial customers.
